BBC Children in Needs ‘Pop Goes the Musical’ is in it’s second year and the 2012 line-up doesn’t disappoint. For those unfamiliar with the concept, Pop Goes the Musical plucks a group of unsuspecting celebrities from their cosy everyday lives, and plants them firmly under the spotlight at a top West End show with the task of belting out a signature show tune. This year we’ve got the likes of Alexandra Burke in Les Misérables, Geri Halliwell taking to the stage in Singin’ in the Rain, the boys from Blue performing a Jersey Boys number and Macy Gray will be joined on stage by up and coming girl group Stooshe in the fantastic Thriller Live.
First to hit the stage will be Alexandra Burke singing ‘On My Own’ from Les Misérables. She’s been busy practicing for some time for her West End debut on 18th September at the Queens Theatre. Tickets are selling fast ahead of this one, it’ll be a really unique experience to see one of the oldest shows in the West End taken over for one night only by one of the biggest faces of modern pop – one not to be missed!
Next up is Blue on the 11th November, they’ll be belting out a Franki Valli and the Four Seasons hit at the Prince Edward Theatre. The boys are not unfamiliar with the bright lights of London’s Theatreland after their performance in Thriller Live last year so those in attendance will be sure to witness a truly professional performance. Shortly after this, it’s Geri’s turn. Fresh off the top of a London cab at the Olympics closing ceremony, Geri will be getting her brolly out to perform at the Palace Theatre in Singin’ in the Rain on the 25th October. Despite dazzling millions all over the globe as one fifth of the unstoppable force that is the Spice Girls – get your tickets now to make sure you don’t miss out.
Last up is Macy Gray accompanied by the girls from Stooshe singing a song from the fantastic Michael Jackson inspired musical, Thriller Live on 15th November. This is sure to be a stand out performance with the mix of Macy Gray’s old-school style with the new girls on the block – Stooshe!
