Traffic up by 52% since last Christmas says lastminute.com
Christmas Day traffic to the site was up by 52% year on year, according to leading travel and leisure retailer, lastminute.com.
The peak in traffic came shortly after 5pm yesterday.
Carey Withey, spokesperson for lastminute.com, said “While Christmas Day will always be a day for spending with friends and family, it seems we Brits still find the time to shop online for a cheap holiday deal.
“In addition to bagging a bargain from the comfort of their sofa, the cold snap seems to have driven people online to look for some winter sun. And with next week’s VAT increases looming, it’s no surprise to see holiday-makers looking to book their summer travel now.”
lastminute.com’s top summer and winter holidays were:
- Egypt Holidays
- Gambia Holidays
- Morocco Holidays
- Italy Holidays
- Canary Islands Holidays
Austria also makes an appearance in lastminute.com’s list of top holiday destinations, indicating that it is this year’s favourite ski and winter sports destination.
According to yesterday’s figures, the top short break destinations are dominated by UK cities, hinting that the staycation is here to stay:
