How many people does it take to create a day of good stuff? In my calculation, it’s probably about 300 or so and how do I reach that conclusion? Read on to find out more.
Last week many of us headed to Manchester to meet over 200 suppliers and business partners for a day of good stuff. We based ourselves at the Radisson Edwardian Hotel on Peter Street right in the centre of town and created a home from home.
We had an amazing schedule of events lined up for the day and everyone who came along got to wear one of our special VIP badges and received a fab goody bag.
lastminute.com CEO Ian McCaig welcomed everyone in his opening address and gave an overview of where the company is today and where it’s headed through 2010 and beyond.
Among our guests were some great bloggers including Simon from entertainmentnewsuk.
Andy Bargery of Londonbloggers.net had some good feedback for us too. “I was one of the lucky bloggers invited to lastminute.com’s good stuff gathering in Manchester. I learnt all about their business, met some interesting people, had a chat with the CEO and found the time to enjoy a few cold ones – all while being entertained by singing waiters and top chefs. Nice to see someone really looking after us bloggers.” he said -nice one Andy!
We ran a series of workshops based around our good stuff; lastminute.com marketing, digital, media and social media efforts were all covered off in these sessions. Guests were able to lounge around on bean bags and deckchairs while sipping tea and eating some rather lush sarnies and cakes.
It was a really great to meet a lot of people and our social media workshop was so popular we had to run it twice. I found that our guests were fascinated by what we are up to and keen to learn more and that many of them are creating new jobs purely for social media. That’s great news for everyone. Jobs are being created and there is a growing trend towards companies wanting to engage in conversation directly with consumers – it all adds up to a much more personal service don’t you think?
Ian Matfin, Manchester’s Chef of the Year, did a brilliant live demo on stage and we all got to taste some of his food. He was also there to launch Restaurant Week which officially goes live on March 1. He’s a great guy and I had a chat with him after the show and he was delighted about how well it all went.
The evening was rounded off with a sit down meal which was great. Thanks to Nichola and Charlie for organising the whole event and thanks to all our guests for making it such a great experience all round.
We were lucky enough to stay at the Midland Hotel just along the road which was fabulous. The rooms are tastefully designed in a modern design embelleshed with beautiful roccoco style textiles and wallpaper.
