lastminute.com globetrotter: wild times at alton towers
October 7th, 2009

Live vocalists appear every night at Alton Towers Hotel with everyone dancing the night away around the pirate ship. Considering the isolated location, I would have expected drink prices to be more expensive, but was happy to end the night spending much less than expected.
Alton Towers is a torrent of fun for adrenalin addicted adults and kids of all sizes. Looking on the map… everything seems so close, but the park is huge…
We decided to face the more thrilling rides first. Air, Nemesis and Rita are amazing. You feel sick. But they are amazing.
And the final ride… The Flume! Small flume … dry as a whistle, medium flume… a splash… third flume… tidal wave… Somehow we managed to keep fellow lastminute.com globetrotter Paul and his son relatively dry however we were completely and utterly soaked.
Awesome.

It’s times like these that I’m so glad there is no coach journey home, or sitting in wet clothes in the car. Straight back to the hotel to dry off… before we do it all again tomorrow!
Ok, maybe the ‘young fun’ rides weren’t aimed at me… but I loved them! Willy Wonka proudly captained his wonderful boats through the chocolate to take you to the famous glass elevator. ‘Hold on Tight Charlie’ we hear as along with Verucca and a couple of Oompah Loompas we are catapulted into this incredible chocolate factory.
As we pass from ride to ride with the Ultimate Fast track tickets (this gets you straight to the front of the queues), we realise Alton Towers isn’t just about the rides but the attractions. From the towers and the gardens to Old McDonalds Farmyard and extraordinary golf, there really is something for everyone.
