Craig is one lucky man – he’s just been to Paris and was at the legendary Rock en Seine where Oasis announced their break up – an historic moment in one of Europe’s most historic and beautiful cities, Paris.
And now over to him for his great story on his most recent trip as one of our One Heck of a Summer Globe Trotters.
Boarding the Eurostar at a very busy London St. Pancras, all it took was a swift two and half hours and we had already arrived ‘en Paree’.
‘Bonjour Monsieur’ welcomed the hotel receptionist ‘I think you will be very pleased with your room’.
The rumour that French rooms are tiny… whoever started it…. please book your next hotel stay at the Hotel Cervantes. Complete with a balcony that Eva Peron would have been happy gracing and picture perfect views down the street, I was delighted with my weekend abode.
Waking up by breakfast in bed (at no extra cost) it was the day of reckoning.
Rock en Seine just on the outskirts of Paris, has become an ‘institution’ amongst the young French (and young at heart) over the last 6 years. 3 music stages hidden in beautiful woodland, stalls, eateries, art exhibitions… you could not get bored.
Being drawn into the festival by Keane’s ‘Somewhere Only We Know’ was a great beginning. Other cool acts included Amy McDonald, Bloc Party and Metric.
Floodlights out, crowds flood in and the bass begins. Calvin Harris hits the stage and the crowd really does go ‘en-seine’. Being in the heart of the action was the best place to be…my ‘shape making’ days from the early noughties were relived and then I could see why people do get so enthralled by that festival feeling.
