swimming with dolphins and staying away from the sharks…
August 7th, 2009

On my last full day in Dubai we decided to visit the Aquaventure Waterpark located in the Atlantis Resort. The water park has two main attractions, the ‘Shark Attack’ ride and the opportunity to swim with the Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphins.
Sliding through a tank filled with sharks, stingrays and many other tropical fish it is definitely not your average waterslide. Luckily, the ‘Shark Attack’ slide is separated from the sharks by a glass tunnel but the feeling of floating through the ‘lagoon’ with sharks swimming over your head and below your dangling feet still managed to bring a shiver to my spine!
My afternoon at the water park was topped off with the opportunity to visit dolphin bay and in particular ‘Donita’ the amazing bottlenose dolphin. I’ve never had the opportunity to get this close to a dolphin before in my previous job as a quantity surveyor I don’t think I ever would have done! Seeing all the different tricks and skills they had been taught really was an amazing experience that had me grinning from ear to ear. To find myself dancing with Donita and playing fetch really was something else.

My stay in Dubai has definitely been an experience that I will never forget. I will undoubtedly look to come back again in the future to see how the city develops. There really are so many things to do and see, that it was impossible to do it all in the short time available!
Sitting on my Emirates flight back, I was sad to leave but excited about all the adventures that await me this summer.

Maureen Lopez says...It’s really great fun playing and swimming with dolphins, they are very sporty and cool. I would also like to enjoy.
